All The Essentials

On our way home from this evening's track meet, I drove with Ten and a friend through a nearby town known for its large Victorian homes.  I indulged in a little real-estate envy over my favorite turreted homes with big wraparound porches and tricolor paint jobs.

Like all my children, Ten is used to this behavior.  He began daydreaming too:  "Mom, you know what I'm gonna do for you when I become a professional soccer player?  I'll buy you one of these big houses in this town."

"Wow, thanks!" I replied.  "Will it have a big porch, and a special room where I can keep all my books?"

"Sure," he told me.

"And don't forget a comfy chair," I reminded him.

"OK, I'll get you a nice comfy chair," he decided.  "And a couple of new books.  And a new heating pad."
